Currency Converter

Convert between more than 180 currencies, cryptocurrencies and precious metals, with exchange rates updated every hour.

Currency Converter: A Quick Guide

The Currency Converter turns an amount in one currency into all the others you have chosen, at once. It covers more than 180 currencies, from the US dollar and the euro to the smallest national currencies, as well as cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum and precious metals such as gold and silver.

How to Use the Currency Converter

  1. Enter an amount: type it into any currency's field. Every other currency is converted as you type, so you can start from whichever currency you know.
  2. Choose your currencies: press Edit Currencies and tick the ones you want, or untick the ones you don't need. Search by code or by name, such as JPY or yen.
  3. Put them in order: drag a currency by its handle on the left to move it up or down.

Your currencies and their order are kept in this browser, so the converter opens the way you left it.

Where Do the Exchange Rates Come From?

The rates come from Open Exchange Rates and are refreshed about every hour. The time of the rates in use is shown under the converter. They are reference rates, the midpoint between buying and selling on the currency markets. Banks, card providers and exchange offices add their own margin and fees, so the amount you actually get or pay will differ a little. Use the converter for planning and comparing, not for trading.

If the rates can't be loaded, for example without an internet connection, the converter uses the last rates it loaded in this browser and shows their date.

Cryptocurrencies and Precious Metals

  • Cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ripple (XRP) and others. Their prices move quickly, so treat the result as a snapshot.
  • Precious metals: gold (XAU), silver (XAG), platinum (XPT) and palladium (XPD), each priced per troy ounce, about 31.1 grams.

Common Uses

  • Planning a trip budget in the local currency
  • Comparing prices when shopping from another country
  • Checking what a payment or salary is worth in your own currency
  • Following the value of a cryptocurrency or of gold
